How can you love your customer? You want them to be the first name from their lips when someone discusses your product or service. I have been blessed, most of our clients we have had for 10+ years. We have gotten most of our new business from client referrals. Getting a new customer is hard, keeping them doesn’t have to be. Here are some tips.
- Don’t be a money grubber. This can be difficult, especially if you’re business is new. If you give them a quote for something, you go an hour or two over the estimate – let them know you went over, but don’t charge them for it. I’m not saying that if the project is four or five hours over you should let that slide. Just the small things. If you own a plumbing store and they buy a commode from you, give them something (not everything) for free to help them install it.
- Make it easy for them to recommend you to their friends – offer an incentive for them to do so. Using the example of the plumbing company. Give them a few business cards, on the back of it make sure they have a place to put their name. Tell them to recommend you, make sure their friends mention their name, and they get $25 off the next service call (or something similar).
- Go above and beyond – this is pretty self-explanatory.
- Do exceptional work. Do a good job, and your clients and customers will love you for it. Retail folks may have a harder time doing this, that is why when your customer buys something for you, make it a pleasant experience for them.
